Can a few damaged pins in socket permanently damage the processor.

After replacing damaged mobo due to bent pins (3) after partial rebuild, my computer still won't power up - shuts down after 10-15 seconds.

Solution
Yes it can. If a pin is bent in such a way that it touches the wrong pad, it could easily supply voltage to something that didn't expect voltage and, then you're going to have a bad time.
Thank-you. I just ordered a new cpu to go into new mobo and so now I have replaced everything. If it still won't work I'll go jump off a high bridge.

So far I have not heard of any good way to diagnose a "no start" machine (when the checklist doesn't reveal the problem) and its always the last thing you replace that solves the problem and that gets expensive, but so is a new off-the-shelf machine that comes packed with a load of junk.

My only advice is take everything out of the case to work on it so you minimize the possibility of causing damage and making mistakes with connectors.

Its a damn travesty that neither Inter nor ASUS provides and CLEAR instructions on installing the CPU and particularly that confusing plastic cover. I thought that it went under the steel frame (instead of on top) and wrecked two boards doing so. What they do provide is a couple of cartoonish drawings that tell you nothing.

like here page 15 ?? open latch '' line up placement arrows'' [fig 3 ] set in cpu insure it not crooked in the socket close and latch cover pops out and off ?? not hard at all

http://www.manualslib.com/manual/705872/Asus-Z87-A.html?page=15#manual

your boards manual should show the same for intel

or depends on the manufacture looks like intel boards may be slightly different as you remove the cover first ??

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/processors/000005762.html

same end result follow your boards manual instructions is best

are you using the correct cpuy pin out for the correct board socket ??

like you cant put a 1151 cpu in a 1150 socket only 1150 fits a 1150 and a 1151 fits a 1151 or a 1155 only fits 1155

or your not looking at the arrow alignment and mashing it all down

The cpu has notches that allow it to fit only one way. I just bought a new i5 and in the documentation there is not one single word about installion; Asus has pictures, no words and it is not clear whether the cover goes on top or under the steel frame - take note of how many guys bend pins because they did it wrong.

But that's history. After install the new cpu I turned on and it did the same thing - board lit up, 3 fans came on for 15 sec. then it shut down AND then it came on again and shut down again. I am totally baffled by this.

New board
New vid card
New Power.Supply
Memory & HDD were new in January from a new rebuild back then.
There are 3 HDD connected, but no action on display

What does this suggest? MOBO has onboard video plus I have the added card. Could that be a problem?
