[SOLVED] can a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER handle two 5120x1440 ultrawide monitors?

I've got a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER video card. I'm looking at upgrading my current quad monitor setup to two curved ultrawide monitors. Some of these monitors are 5120x1440 and I can't tell if this card could handle two of them (stacked vertically, for a total of 5120x2880). It's got 3 displayport 1.4 ports and one HDMI 2.0b port.

At https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/rtx-2080-super/ , it says the max resolution is 7680x4320 , with a footnote that says "4k 12-bit HDR at 144Hz or 8k 12-bit HDR at 60Hz over one DisplayPort 1.4 connector (with DSC). "

The user guide says:
DisplayPort: Drive the latest DisplayPort panels with support for resolutions up to 4096x2160.
HDMI: Support for HDMI includes 4K resolution at 60 Hz, GPU-accelerated Blu-ray 3D support, x.v.Color, HDMI Deep Color, and 7.1 digital surround sound.


I'm confused by the discrepancy between the 7680x4320 max resolution listed in the specs, vs. the 4096x2160 indicated in the user guide.

But... looking at the number from the specs, given that 5120x1440 is less than half the number of pixels in 7680x4320, I'm thinking maybe yes, it could handle two of those monitors, but the aspect ratios are different in those two numbers. Does that matter?

Would I need to drive one monitor via DisplayPort and one via HDMI? Or could I drive two of these monitors via two DisplayPort ports?

The the 4096x2160 setup would be 4 1920x1080 (2 by 2) monitors. The 7680 x 4320 is two 4k monitors (3840 x 2160) side by side. Since nothing indicates that it will handle anything over 7680 pixels wide and you are looking at 2 times 5120 x 1440 (so 10240 x 2880) pixels.

I would suggest that you contact tech support at NVIDIA by email or chat for a definitive answer, which I expect will probably be no for running two 5120x1440 monitors. Not that the pixel count is too high in total, but they may well not have implemented your intended setup because it is not a common setup, at least yet.

Thanks. Just for clarification, I'm thinking of stacking the two ultrawides vertically, for a total resolution of 5120x2880.
