I heard a Q9650 can run on my Optiplex 755 on my friends 0GM819 mobo. If its true I have he has the tower version of the optiplex 755. He would appreciate the help and I would too.

From many reports across the internet it appears to work fine provided you have the correct A20 BIOS, despite it not being on the official support list. Someone from Dell on the Dell forums even says it was validated to work.

That said if your friend already has a Q6600 he could do a BSEL padmod to 1333FSB and end up with exactly the same 3.0GHz as the Q9650, just with ~40w more power consumption and 4MB less cache.

Q6700 would go 3.33GHz with BSEL and they are all the better G0 stepping. Some Q6600 are the less efficient B3. The Q6600 was popular for O/C because it was 1/2 the price of the Q6700. But in a locked BIOS situation it's much better. I waould suggest try the BSEL with what you have. You can get control of voltage with Throttlestop software if you need a little bump to get stable at 3.33GHz.
