I have a HD that I'd like to use that has music software and files on it that I'd like to work on. The original computer that it was installed in died. When I plug it in the monitor reads "signal missing" so I presume the computer is dead. I have another old computer (HP Pavillion 522n) that has an empty bay for another HD. I connected the HD that I want to use and the HP recognizes it, but when I try to open it, the HP tells me that I need to format it. If I format it will that completely erase the programs and files that I'd like to use on the old HD? Is there a way of working around this so that the software and files are iintact? Many thanks!
