Yesterday I bought SE and installed it. Well, for various reasons, I
wasn't happy with it and deleted it. This forced me to reinstall AOS and
go through the long patch downlaods and all.

But now...I am getting client crashes with this message:

CLIENT caused an invalid page fault in
module CLIENT.EXE at 016f:0054265c.

Can anyone tell me what the heck to do to fix this and go back to being
able to play?

thanx for any advice

Well if you entered your account upgrade code then the servers are
going to be thinking that you're using the SE software. It's possible
that it's sending stuff to the old AOS client that's making it crash.

You may have no choice but to reinstall SE as there's no way to
un-upgrade your account.

Surely the version number is checked at some point? Actually, didn't they
say they were unifying the clients anyway? I think it is just a server-side
difference when you upgrade now.

Could try uninstalling again and deleting any registry entries under UO?
They rarely seem to get removed when they should.

I was just guessing. Of course it's an obvious bug that shouldn't
exist if that's what's happening but I've grown accustomed to those by
now haven't you? :)

thanx to you and reg. I'm hoping it was just my computer being geeky. I
reinstalled SE in a separate directory and if I HAVE to i guess i'll use
it. But if there is something I can do to make use of the good ol' UO 2D
i'd like to keep using that

I am using UO-SE in 2D. I do not remember it asking when I installed,
but I got both 2D & 3D. I never use 3D, I hate the graphics for the
characters, and some other stuff.

The normal 2d client is still there. The only annoying thing I found
about SE was that it forced me to install both clients rather than
just the one I actually use. Don't you see the "Quick Client Choice"
box when you start up UOAssist?

I was able to install UO2d from the SE discs - the option should be
there. (Unless that's a difference between the UK and US releases).

You may safely delete the models, particles and mp3 music if you never
want to use the 3d client, and save about half a gig of space.

I suggest moving them to a folder and zipping them up. That way you can
restore them and update successfully in the future.
