Question Can anyone recommend a good external disc drive?

I'm looking to buy an external disc drive for my laptop as I want to burn a few files onto some dvd-r and CD-R discs. There's a lot of cheap ones on Amazon about £10 but the reviews are mixed, some say they stop working after two weeks. I was looking at an Asus one that's £28. Is this a good make? Even the more expensive ones have got a few negative reviews so I was wondering if anyone out there had bought one that they would recommend. Thanks.

Can't say I've seen anything definitive on optical drives in quite some years. I believe LG just announced the ending of blue-ray drive production.

LG and Sony are kind of the go-to when it comes to optical drives. But I've never really had an issue with HP either. Not sure where HP gets the drives from, and I assume it varies.

I've had an external optical drive for over a decade, aside from the textured plastic starting to go gooey, no issues with the drive itself. (Baking soda scrub if you ever need to deal with that by the way)

I've been using the LG BP60NB10 without any problems; don't know how much amazon charges for them where you live.

Just an FYI, another option is buying an internal disc drive and getting a 5¼ enclosure. That way you won't be limited on your selection.
Price for both components will be higher than picking up a laptop disc burner, but I would argue that quality and functional longevity will be better.
