[SOLVED] Can different hard drives models be used to build a RAID?

Good Day,

i have 3 WD Green HDD all of them are identical, same model same capacity (6 TB) and 1 WD Red HDD different model different type but same company same capacity (6 TB),

Will this be a problem ? i know that The SLOWER of the drives... will dictate the overall speed, other than that, is there any real problem to use different hard disks Models with the same capacity? please advice

Not in any RAID, ever.

Their claim to fame is to spin down when not needed. The delay in spin up may corrupt the array.

Never ever.

If you search you can find a program to prevent idle time spindown. I used to use keepalivehd but i don't know if it still works or is even available anymore.

Some people prefer to populate a RAID with dissimilar drives (but with identical capacities), their reasoning being that this provides an additional level of redundancy. For example, what happens if you choose a bad model? If the RAID is populated with only this model, then it will be at a greater risk of data loss than if this were the only bad member of the array.

Just FYI, here is an unusual case where four PM1633a 15.36TB SAS SSD drives failed at the same time in a FreeNAS RAIDZ1. The underlying problem was a firmware "time bomb" that affected all 4 drives at the same time.
