I want to ask this here as well. I recently got a Hellhound 7800XT and it has immense sag. I was gonna order a GPU bracket either way so I didn't pay attention to it.

Then problems such as boot looping whenever you took the GPU out and placed it back in, followed by audio/video freeze whenever you slightly touched the GPU with the PC running.

Found something to support it in the meantime and this fixed all of the issues.

What do you guys think, can GPU sag have this much of an impact on a PC?

I would think probably yes.

If it is sagging enough to then make partial contact with the slot...problems.

If then using a support actually makes it not do that, the sag was indeed the problem.
Hi, thanks for the reply!

A person on reddit suggested that it may be a faulty GPU, specifically bad solder joints causing the problems when sag was present.

I really don't want to go through the RMA process again, this is a replacement card for my dead 6750XT.

Do you think this is the case?

That may also be the issue, but absolutely impossible for us out here to know.

I understand, I'll see what I'll do in the end. If it works fine supported by something then I might just keep it as is. I really don't want to go through the RMA process again. Thanks for your time!

Does it post if you hold up the GPU to stop it from sagging? Have you tried other stuff like reseating RAM and CPU?
It does post if you hold it up, you just need to get it right, takes a few tries. I have reseated ram but not the CPU, I think I ran out of thermal paste so I didn't do it.
For what it's worth, the system worked fine with a 6600 before so...
Also, I've found something around the house to support it and keep it up and it works no issues, it's a tractor tire keychain lol
As I said, with this to support the GPU it works without issues.

Well if it works then i guess you should just keep it like that! :)

How bad is the sag without it there?

I'm not gonna remove the tire to take a pic as to not mess things up the way they we're before
But it was bad indeed, the corner of the GPU which was the lowest point was around the half mark of the toy tire.

This is why you should always use a brace to hold your video card. I have heard horror stories of manufacturers refusing to RMA cards that were damaged due to sag. If you damage it along the contact edge, and it stops working, your warranty is gone.

I 100% agree with you, however, the GPU had this issues since I got it. Literally the first time I installed into the PC, it would just boot loop unti I held it in some weird angle that made it work.

After that, as long as you left it alone it would work fine. If you even slightly touched it with the tip of your finger, the signal would freeze up.

I understand you can damage GPUs with sag, but this wasn't the case here. It's barely one week old
