Can I add a 8gb memory with a 4gb memory stick

I have a LENVENO 535 pc AMD A8 processor 3.20 ghz.which currently has one 4gb memory stick. I have a free slot, and according to my specs i can run up to 16 gb. Can I add a matching 8gb memory in the free slot to increase my memory to 12 gb? Or what are my options.

I suspect that the machine supports dual-channel memory, and you would see better overall performance adding a 4 GB memory stick, or pulling the existing stick and putting in two 8's.

What OS are you running, and 32-bit or 64-bit? A 32 bit OS won't use the extra memory anyway.

EDIT: The 535 comes in desktop and notebook. Which do you have?

Mis-matched pairs should work. It will run dual channel, just only for the first 8GB. Assuming you have a 64bit OS, go for it.
