Can I boot off my Hard Drive from another computer?

So I have two computers with the same motherboard and processor. Does this mean I can take my hard drive out of one of them and boot it in the other? Or do all the parts need to be exactly the same?

No, that usually does not work.
Even if it does, you run into licensing issues.

I have several semi broken latops I'm fixing. Even 2 almost identical Compaq laptops...moving a drive with OS installed from one to another does not work.
