Can i connect a DVI-I cable to a DVI-D monitor input?

My old 720p Dell monitor from like 6 years ago is finally giving out, the display is still in perfect condition, but it is making a burning plastic smell and i would rather have my house not burn down because of it. I really like this monitor from Microcenter for only $100, its 1080p and is a 16:9 ratio 1920 x 1080

As you can see in the AOC link, it says it has a DVI-D port (and a VGA port), and i know that dvi-d carries only a digital image signal and a dvi-i carries analog and digital, but in this picture it looks like a DVI-I port because of the extra 4 slots on the very right of the port around the horizontal slot. So i am worried if i get a dvi cable, it will be a dvi-i cable and will not fit into the dvi-d port; or vice versa if thats possible. Can this problem even be existent? like do they even make dvi-i cables or just dvi-d cables?

Forgot to mention i have an EVGA Geforce GTX 660 SC gpu which has dvi-d and dvi-i ports, in case you cant see it in my sig 😀

Yes, you are fine. And sometimes the spec writers don't always get it quite right. I have a similar AOC monitor on my 2nd PC; 27". Very nice.

It obviously is a DVI-I port. As long as you use the DVI-I port on the card, you should be OK. But can't you find a DVI-D cable? They're the most common.

Yes, they make DVI-I and DVI-D cables. Yes, you can plug a DVI-D cable into a DVI-I slot ( I have that right now). You just can't plug a DVI-I cable into a DVI-D slot. The four extra pins would get crushed 😉

Dont you mean it the other way? A DVI-I male cable cannot fit into a DVI-D female port because the four male pins on the cable would be crushed by the female DVI-D port not having the extra four pin input ports.

This is getting confusing with all the DVI's flying around lol

Yes, they make DVI-I and DVI-D cables. Yes, you can plug a DVI-I cable into a DVI-D slot ( I have that right now). You just can't plug a DVI-D cable into a DVI-I slot. The four extra pins would get crushed 😉

When you get there, show them those links and ask to open the box BEFORE you purchase it so you know what you're getting. Might just be a mistake on the store or the manufacturer's sites. I recently read a thread where a guy made a mistake and got DVI-I and DVI-D mixed up and backwards 😉

but xfx R9 290enfc have only (DVI-D (fe-mail port only)

so ??? is their any way to run this card on that monitor

Ahh! I see your problem. Apparently, card manufacturers are finally doing away with legacy support like analog VGA. No, that card (and most other R9-290s) no longer produce an analog display. A new monitor or different card is the only answer. They do make HDMI (digital) to VGA (analog) converters, but they are almost as expensive as a new digital monitor, and I have never used one to vouch for their capability.

First I've ever seen of that style HDMI/VGA converter. Most are quite a bit more complex and expensive. The one in your link I would have reservations about. Conversion from digital to analog requires a device called a D/A converter ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital-to-analog_converter ). It would require power. There is no power at the HDMI port, just signal. Buy the above device at your own risk.
