Can I do This?

Yep, another of those endless bent pin questions. Sorry,. but I'm another victim of mobo mfgrs failure to warn customers about handling LGA sockets. I tried to put the "protective" plastic cap back on socket after inspecting a new board for bent pins. I got it on backwards and didn't notice and installed the CPU and of course it didn't boot cuz I bent the pins.

QUESTION: I bought another board. Can I test the above CPU in the new board to see it its fried? Or will that CPU cause damage to the new board. I doubt it but I'm not sure.

The CPU is most likely not fried and should be totally fine.

Your down talking of motherboard manufacturers who produce hundreds of thousands of motherboards and distribute them across the globe to system builders everywhere - without issue, is... questionable.

I accidentally bent a few pins on my board about a year ago (Z87 and 4770k) when removing the CPU retention bracket causing my system not to boot. I used some tweasers to bend the pins back in place and after some careful work, reassembled everything and it would boot again. Been running fine since then.

My "down talking . . . .without issue is questionable"? Really? So you don't think they should have warned about the risks of damaging delicate pin? Why use such weasel words, just say what you mean.

This is my 8th build but I have never had such problems as I am now. Maybe just a run of bad luck or I've been too impatient. Anyway, I got two bad sockets I tried various methods to straighten. Even went out last night and bought a powerful mag lite with built in light. I think the pins (about 6) are just too badly damaged. Straightened 3 but other three I could not discern in which direction they were pointing as the horizontal upper section seems to be buckled or otherwise misshapen.

So I would advise others to first determine whether the pin can be straightened. The upper part is sort of arrow shaped but if this shape is not clear and you cannot tell in what direction its pointing like all the others, then you won't be able to straighten. Don't waste your time trying.

No advice comes with the boxed cpu advising to go to intel site for instructions (there are none with the CPU) and that is ridiculous. IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY, YOU ARE ALMOST GUARANTEED TO DAMAGE THE SOCKET. Also, be extremelycareful removing or reinstalling the plastic cap. That is how I damaged one of mine.
