Question Can I game at 144fps with my Intel NUC8i5BEK? (external eGPU)

Hi :)

I've always been a console gamer, and have used this little Nuc for work until yesterday I decided to try and play my favorite game on PC and.. it failed big time even on lowest setting. (Sorry, I'm really new to gaming hardware but I am trying to do a lot of research right now) turned out the Iris built in card is not suitable for the kind of gaming I want to do. After some google searches, I have a question please, I will appreciate if anyone can shed some light on this.

If I buy the Razer Core X eGPU, plus this card Radeon RX 580 8 GB can I game at 100+ fps or close to that? Considering my monitor support 144hz and uses freesync technology via DisplayPort if I recall this correctly.

By the way, does not have to be on Ultra settings. Even mid settings will do. I play competitively, so I am just trying to reach the maximum FPS with my monitor and that little Nuc8i5bek model.

I want to apologize if my query sound silly, I only start searching/exploring GPU and graphic cards yesterday. Thanks guys!

Forgot to add, the processor in this Nuc is i5-8259U 2.30ghz

It has the Coffeelake i5 right? 4c/8t? Still a low tdp cpu.

Depends entirely on the game, less cpu bound ones it could with a gpu like the 580.

Honestly, for not a huge cost more than the Razer Core X, you could be building a decent gaming desktop, its not great value for money.

Otherwise, it could work reasonably well as you have thunderbolt and youll be using an external display.
