I am wondering how difficult it is to take my current system and use all the components except replace the motherboard and case? Is that possible? My reason for doing this is I bought an Oculus Quest 2 and the USB 3 type C port seems to not work (with either the Link cable or the charger cable). It gets power through the port but does not make the connection otherwise.

Alternatively, would a hub/adapter work or does that diminish the data transfer?

Yes, you can replace the case and the motherboard only, while keeping the rest, so long as you buy a 300 series motherboard (Z370, Z390, or one of the locked chipsets from the 300 series which I would not recommend as good choices for your configuration. Better to stick with Z370 or Z390)
