I am going to put together my first system from scratch. What do you all think of what I have in mind?

for max performance you should get PC1066 RDRAM, not the PC800.
(or alternatively get sambsung PC800 40ns stuff and overclock it)

apart from that im outta suggestions.
but boy is it gonna cost a bucket!

One of the Pioneer DVD's is ATA66, I can't remember the model name. I will look it up later for you. This would be the model I would go for.

I might be a good idea to check the driver support of the hardware (for WinXP) before you commit yourself, and make sure that if windows has any problems, the manufacturers have XP drivers. For example, my friend has an Epson printer that wasn't supported, I assumed that XP would recognise such popular printers!
