I currently have a M5A97 motherboard with 16gb ram and a FX-8350 8 core processor (FM3+ slot). Can I run the 970 without being bottlenecked by my cpu or ram? I can upgrade ram (and I plan to) but if I need a better processor, I'll have to wait until I can upgrade it. I can grab a 970 now but if I'm going to need more than just a ram upgrade I will have to wait to buy it all at the same time. I'm currently running a 950 and with my old 4130 processor I had a bottleneck issue. Thanks in advance!

Solution
An 8350 is an upgrade over an 4130. Not just because the 8350 has double to cores but the piledriver architecture it uses performs better than the 4130s bulldozer(aka faildozer) architecture.
AM3+ slot 😉

No, you will be bottle-necked by 8350s single core performance. Overclocking can help alleviate the issue.

You will see an FPS increase in game which rely on the GPU (First person shooters). Game that rely on the CPU (RTS, MMORPGs) you might see a little or no increase at all.

There will be a bottleneck in some cpu heavy games. But it wont be much and it will mainly be at resolutions of 1080p and lower, and will usually only be noticeable of you are using a higher refresh rate monitor. 16Gb of ram is plenty so no need to upgrade there.

You upgraded from i3-4130 to FX-8350 ?
That's more like side-grade not upgrade. i3 has better single core performance, fx has better multi core performnce.
You should have skipped fx entirely and upgraded to i5.

wait to rx 480 and use amd overdrive to overclock your cpu. is the safest way.

or you can go to your bios a do the work manually.

I only upgraded (or sidegraded) the processor. I was running an FX-4130 on this board first.
