But you can possibly install an add-in card to do the job. Depends on what expansion slot types (PCI, PCIe) you have available on the motherboard, if any. Your motherboard may even have an unused USB3 front panel header that was left unconnected because your case doesn't have one to connect to it. So full system specs are required to help more: motherboard, CPU, GPU, case, memory, drives, etc.
I've never had any problems with USB3. But your system is so old it really needs replacing.You don't want to do this. Usb 3.0 is trash, seldom works, tons of glitches and capability issues. 2.0 is pretty much flawless in comparison.
