I was wondering, is it possible to use the M.2 SSD from an early 2014 MacBook Air in the Asus Z170-A's M.2 slot? I know there are different types of M.2 connectors, 4 if I'm not wrong, but I have no clue what they are or if they are compatible with standard ATX boards. Help much appreciated. Thanks :)

Hey there, Arnav.

Judging by the motherboard's technical specs and the slots it has, I'd say that it should have no problem using that m.2 SSD as it supports both m.2 SATA and PCIe. If you want to be completely sure of that, I'd suggest that you get in touch with the mobo manufacturer's customer support for confirmation.

Hope that helps.

Cheers for reply. Apple is notorious for using 'proprietary' parts, which are nothing of the sort, just small changes designed to prevent backwards compatibility. So I thought I may ask. But you're right, Asus will know. They always know :O

even if it doesnt work straight in the m2 slot chances are you can use a m2 to pci-e adapter card

just need to get the adapter card that supports the m2 drive key--ie if its B keyed you need the adaptor that supports B not M

last adaptor card i looked at was only about £12 so cheap and worth doing to get use of a m2 drive
