can i run 8 gb 1600 mhz ram together with 4 gb 1333 mhz ram

Solution
Try arranging the memory in dual channel configuration first (8 GB in slot1 and 4 GB in slot3). The system should automatically make adjustments to try to run the two DIMM's together. If that arrangement doesn't work (properly), then manual adjustment of voltage/timings may be attempted; that will be looked at in detail when necessary.
Maybe.

If the memory characteristics are otherwise identical, then operation of the DIMM's may be either -

1) With 8 GB DIMM in slot 1, and 4 GB DIMM in slot 3; dual channel operation of 4 GB of the 8 GB DIMM with the 4 GB DIMM, and remaining 4 GB of 8 GB DIMM operating in single channel mode. DIMM's will run at 1333 MHz.

2) With 8 GB DIMM in slot 1, and 4 GB DIMM in slot 2; DIMM's will run in single channel mode and at 1333 MHz.

Slight adjustment of voltages and possibly timings also may be required to get the modules to work together.

If memory characteristics are otherwise not identical, then in the worse case, the system may fail to boot. Or maybe only some memory will be recognized.

It is also dependent on the sensitivity of the memory controller.

Thanks brispuss,
