My current situation is I have a i5 6500 and a gtx 1060 6gb and I stream fortnite on all low at 1080p. BUT I have a 144hz monitor and I don't get near the fps in game that i need to fully utilize the 144 refresh rate. I have been watching some videos and talking to friends and they say to get a better gpu and not a better cpu. But unfortunately that isn't in my price range. I wan't some proffesional opinions before I make the bold purchase of a cpu and motherboard.

My question:
Could I stream Fortnite with all low settings at 1080p on OBS and get more than 144fps in game?

I cannot absolutely GUARANTEE you the full 144fps, but there is an option that will basically guarantee zero impact from recording. If you have a bit of extra money, I would recommend reusing your old components in a new streaming PC build: https://youtu.be/jROntrxj5-E. You could easily cut back to an 8600k with virtually no performance loss compared to the 8700k if you use the two-PC method (using the saved money to buy new componentry necessary for the 3570k).

You would need a new PSU, Case, a spare HDD, a separate monitor, and a BASIC GPU (if you don't want to be using the iGPU, your decision), which can run you ~$200-250 depending on what you get.

If you don't want to go through the trouble, then the 8700k will be one of the...

If you don't want to go through the trouble, then the 8700k will be one of the stronger processors out there, but even it can't stream without SOME performance loss on a single system.

Fortnite is more GPU dependent than other games. I also have a 1060, and a mid range cpu, and I get between 70-100 fps on max settings. However, if you're playing at low settings, the cpu makes much more of a difference. I think if you wanted to be able to get a constant 144fps while streaming, you would need to get both a better CPU and GPU. However, I would recommend getting a new CPU first, as the 1060 is an extremely solid card, and your CPU is probably holding you back more than your graphics card, due to its 4 cores and being 2 generations old.

Maybe wait until the next generation of GPUs come out either late this year or sometime next year before getting a new one, because that way you will get more power for a better price
