hey guys, I have a dell inspiron 3650. it has an i5-6400, 8 gb of DDR3 and a gt 730. will my motherboard support a 1660 super and will my case fit the new card?

Solution
yeah i dont really need more ram that much and i will probably upgrade my motherboard and need DDR4 in then future anyways. but would the 1650 super work with my motherboard? https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Gaming-...ld=1&keywords=gtx+1650&qid=1591701349&sr=8-16
Yes, you can run that GPU in your current motherboard, but you need a better power supply or you risk destroying the GPU or other components if you use a SATA or Molex adapter. A better power supply requires an adapter to go from 24pin motherboard power to the Dell motherboards 8pin connection. You also need a new case to fit a larger GPU or you can modify the Dell case, but modification would likely be...

What does this mean? That GTX 1650 Super you linked requires 6pin PCIe from the PSU which that Dell system does not have. The best GPU the OP could use is a GTX 1050 or 1050 TI that don't require extra power. Basically any GPU that uses 75watt or less would work, but the motherboard may also have a power limit on the PCIE 16x slot which may be 35-45watt. So then you are back to a GTX 1050 or an even lower end GT 1030, which uses 30-35watt.

so im good with a 1650 from any brand? wanted the 1660 because it was 6 gb but doesnt make much difference in fortnite right? I get around 40-50 fps on low settings in fortnite with the gt 730.

and im also not sure if the 1050 super would fit in my case, im not sure but it does look like space is limited in my inspiron 3650

The GT 730 gets all it's power from the PCIE 16x slot and uses somewhere around 25 watt.
If you have a 6 pin connector on your PSU.. You could buy the Asus TUF 1650 Super for gaming at 1080p
You going to need this if you dont have a PCI-E 6 Pin Power.

Do not use one of these. You need a better power supply, which means getting a new case and an adapter to use it on your motherboard, because your motherboard does not have a normal 24pin ATX power connection.

oh damn. so my best solution for my small budget is a new case and the 1660? just two things?

You need to either get a small formfactor PSU that has a 6pin PCIE rail which can be very expensive or you buy a new case, 500-550watt PSU and the adapter to use it on your motherboard. This all assumes you can even transfer the motherboard to another case, which may not even work without getting a Full Tower ATX case, because of the shape and size of the motherboard. You are better off getting a GTX 1050 or 1050 TI that do not require 6pin power.

yeah i agree. just a 1050 swap would work without buying anything else right?

oh wow pretty much same exact prebuilt i have except mine has a 730 and the new gpu really helped it. thanks it looks like from the video i dont need a new case or motherboard if i buy the gpu that austin evans used

Yea just buy GTX 1650 its much better than austin evans gpu replace. 1650 is much better than 1050.

or if you have molex adapter get 1650 Super..fps is like 5-10 away from 1660.
