[SOLVED] can i use 6 pin in a 8 pin GPU if the GPU's TDP is only 120 watt?

Solution
No. There is no way to plug it in, given the outer rectangular "border" of the plug. If the GPU requires an 8-pin connector, you MUST use an 8-pin connector.

If your PSU has two of the 6-pin connectors, then you can use a dual-6-pin-to-single-8-pin adapter safely.

sadly, i have only 1 6-pin connector and that is why i asked... thank you tho

While its still not good practice, you could buy a molex to 8 pin adapter, or 6 pin to 8 pin adapter and it would work.

Would be better to just buy a suitable power supply, would only be about $50.
oh thanks for the suggestion about the adapter.
i would build a new pc in future (maybe another 5 years?? idk lol) so thats the time. for now i just need a GPU because the GT630 im using now is just unbearable already

Agreed that would be better to get a suitable power supply.

DO NOT use any of these:
  • molex to PCIe (6 or 8 pin, doesn't matter)
  • single-6-pin-to-single-8-pin adapter

That is asking for a potential electrical fire. DO NOT do it.

not even if the GPU's TDP is only 120W??
sorry if my question is dumb im a newbie
