Question Can I use a router as ethernet switch and WLAN access point simultaneously?

In my room I have one ethernet outlet that I can connect my PC with and get a stable internet connection.
Since I need WLAN aswell, I tried to connect a router with the internet and use it for WLAN and as a bridge to my PC, which is not working, neither WLAN nor for my PC.
I disabled DHCP on the router and tried changing its IP adress after looking at some other forums but i can not get it to work.
What am I missing? Is this possible with a normal router (Telekom Speedport Smart 3 Router)? I am in student living quarters so I dont have access to the broader network settings.

Help appreciated!

connect the ethernet outlet to a yellow ethernet port of your speed port
inside the speed port menu, enable expert mode
then goto network and enable WLAN Access Point
this should be it, you can use wif and the other yellow ethernet ports to connect your devices

Thank you! I can now connect my PC via the router. WLAN LED is is glowing now, but I dont have internet over the WLAN connection with the router. I removed power for a few seconds but it still doesnt work on my phone.

Try something even more basic. Reset the router to factory. Now plug the wan port into the wall jack.

Although not the optimum long term configuration it should allow you to test that everything works. You are in effect pretending you are buying ISP services from someone else in your house that controls the main router.

The only gotcha you have to worry about is if the main router uses the same IP range. You will get a warning on most routers. So if the wan IP is 192.168.0.x and that is the same range your router is using on the lan you need to change the range to 192.168.1.x for example.

But it really should work using the method you tried. It has to be something strange with the wifi settings. Did you use the same or different SSID names. I would use different ones on your router just to be sure it is connecting/not connection to what you think it is.
