I have a motherboard that is currently using a FM1 CPU. Would I be able to use a FM2+ CPU without modifying my motherboard?

The power requirements should be fine then if its a decent power supply. If you just want to game a micro atx h97 board and an i5 will be fine. This board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157512&cm_re=h97-_-13-157-512-_-Product is good balancing quality and budget but there are cheaper out if you need to save a bit more. Two cpus are really the best budget options; one is $190 (i5, 4 cores) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117302 and one is $120 (i3, two cores) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116946

Can you recommend a good FM1 processor then? I have absolutely no idea on what I'm doing.

I really appreciate the help btw. You have no idea how confusing all of this is to me. So my goal is to get a decent setup. Would you mind helping me out with that? Motherboard and processor wise.

My current PC specs are
GPU: Nvidia GTX 550 Ti EVGA (already found an upgrade to buy)
CPU: AMD A6-3670 (need help)
Motherboard Model: GA-A75M-UD2H (need help)

My current budget is any amount really. I just got a job and I have little to no payments.

Switching to Intel would provide you the best performance in most scenarios, including gaming. To utilise an Intel processor, you're going to need to replace your motherboard too. I'd recommend the following upgrade (motherboard + CPU):

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($179.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock H97M Anniversary Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($69.49 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $249.48
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

The Intel i5 is a quad-core processor, which is ideal for gaming (better than AMD's 8-core offering when it comes to gaming, as Intel provide better performance per core). Tied in with your GTX 980, you should be able to run any game; if you want even more processing power you could even purchase an i7, however the final price will increase of course. The motherboard I've selected is a microATX form factor by the way.

Prices are in United States Dollars (USD) by the way, assuming you're from the United States; if not, please reply and let us know which country you reside in. :)

All the best. :)
