Can i use this HDD as a back up external

Hi there i have double zerofilled this HDD. will the hardrive get worse if i eg backup stuff onto it every maybe one month and pack it away. i will already have the data on my main pc. this will just be an assurance if a HDD on my main pc crashes. i will be prepared if it crashes.

Using an unreliable drive as a backup is the next best thing to not having a backup at all. Those warnings indicate it's overheated in the past and sectors have been going bad, probably at an increasing rate. If your primary drive crashes you can't count on this drive being readable. Even if it just sits in a drawer somewhere it could still be degrading. Oxidation, contamination, demagnetization, etc are all possibilities for these problems, and can worsen while not in use.
