It can, but it will do it with less performance than dual channel memory. Your CPU gets only 1/2 the designed memory bandwidth if you have single channel RAM.Hi, I want to know whether a 16gb 2666MHz single-channel ram handle 6tb of storage and also high end applications like photoshop, CATIA, Ansys? If yes please explain how? An amateur here, so i just want to know how it works. Thank you
Thank you for answering my question. Well, I understood the process behind ram consumption and the advantage of dual-channel ram but is 16GB of ram enough to handle such big applications along with accessing data from hard drives working simultaneously is what I want to know? Why I am asking about this because one of my 16GB ram stick got damaged a week back and here I am still not able to figure out what would’ve happened for it to stop working. Just want to know what its actual cause would be so that I can take care of this next time.It can, but it will do it with less performance than dual channel memory. How can 16GB handle 6TB or storage? It only contains the required data from storage AT THE TIME. You never need all 6TB in memory at once.
If you use all the 16GB of RAM, then operating system will temporarily send the least used data from memory to disk. This is called swapping. It REALLY hurts performance, but it will keep the PC from crashing due to lack of memory.
Usage, won't cause a failure. Parts fail. You just have do decide what to do. Buy new, RMA the old and wait without RAM for replacement, or run with diminished performance.Thank you for answering my question. Ohhh okay, well I think it is what it is, So it's just the life expectancy of these parts and go with new ones once they fail. Anyway, then I should look for a new ram 😅😀 thank you for answering all my doubts. One final question, whether its better to buy a ram with an enclosed body(like a heatsink on top) or an open one(without any enclosed body)?Usage, won't cause a failure. Parts fail.
