I have a MS-7778 motherboard and i was wondering if it can handle the AMD A10-6800k. HP's website said it can only handle A10-5800k.
Is there really a difference and could my motherboard handle it?

I'd say clutchc answered it very well, and I wish you good luck getting HP support to give you a good answer'
Here is a link to a newer version of the Ms-7778 - Version 1,0 it states that it will handle A10-6800k
It will work if the MB BIOS recognizes the newer APU. With retail MBs, it's just a matter of finding the latest BIOS so you can flash it and update it. But with OEM boards like HP's MSI board, you are best off to contact HP and find out if they offer a BIOS update that recognizes the newer APU.

you dont by any chance already have a A10-5700 or A10-5800k in there do you? if you do, then upgrading to the 6800k really will not give you any tangible benefit.
I have a HP p7-1414 with a MSI MS-7778(Jasmine) and it supports FM2 sockets but the highest processor it says it supports is a Trinity Quad-Core A10-5800K .. TDP - 100W. So I am not sure if it will support anything over that. Unless you could get a new BIOS from HP Support or something of that matter. And the 5800K being -.4 points lower and costing $38 dollars cheaper and not having to take the risk/worry if it will work or not. I would just get the 5800K in my own opinion. Hope I could help. Have a good day.
