Can my M2N32 SLI wifi deluxe edition support a Phenom II 940?

Seem like i should be able to slap a Phenom II Deneb 940 and later models on my mobo with some limitations of course.. I just play games and program some and render couple times a week. My X2 5600 just konked on me and need a new processor this weekend. So pls come up with the answer asap. thanks
Im just interested in if it would work, or not.
 
According to ASUSTek's list, the PII AM2+ processors are not supported in the M2N32-SLi Deluxe motherboards.

I have that Mobo too in another box. I'm about to plop my old 9850 in there.
 
Well... first of all.. there is craploads of webpages out there that says that this processor IS AM2 compatible. So...
Hell even NCIX list it as AM2
 
Simple socket compatibility is unfortunately not enough. On both Asus and cpu-upgrade websites the Phenom 2 isn't listed in the supported CPUs. Might want ton contact Asus to make sure and/or to know if they have any beta BIOS that would support it.
 
NCIX is one of the best canadian on-line store for computer parts (and god knows we need more like them here).

To the OP's defense, Asus's website really sucks, I prefer to go to www.cpu-upgrade.com, but it is true he might have been able to find the information on his own. Moreover, the OP isn't wrong, AM2 and AM2+ are technically inter-compatible the same way PCI-e 1.1 and 2.0 are, however, as I said in my post, you need more than simple socket compatibility.
 


Did you have to do any tweaks. I plan on upgrading to an AM3 cpu on this board and it makes me feel better to know someone else has gotten it to work.
 
Phenom II m2n32 sli deluxe

1. Just download new BIOS.. There are new Phenom part in that bios...
2. Start up in my system ..... Power on, then reset---> start up.

3. There might be way to go around this start up. If anyone have ideas ??

But Phenom II x720 is nice upgrade for my M2N32 sli deluxe mobo since its OLD in computer terms.
Also thinking of NVIDIA GTX275, but that will be after summer holiday...
 



WELL! How come I'm running a Phenom II 940 on that same ASUS MB....The New BIOS came out a few weeks ago with the

Phenom II 940 listed...The compatiblity page has not caught up to it yet!

Interesting! you have the same boot problem I have on power up! it will just sit there! till you do a reset,Then it will work fine!

Only do it on a cold Power up Vs a reset! I,m running a Phenom II 940 and I run a GF GTX 280

The old one Has been dropped it was deleated ! the New one is 2205 and includes the Newer Cpu,s Quad x4 Phenom II etc!

Here is some more info!



The Phenom WILL WORK....they are backward compatible back to AM2 CPU 940 pin sockets!

I stuck in some OcZ PC2 8500 5-5-5-15 Reeper Series OCZ2RPR1064GK 2 x 2 gig dual channel

work great with XP 64bit All 4 gig! But I have a Memory problem with VISTA Argggg it,s like going back before the 4 gig fix!

Crashes BSOD 7E instantly on starting VISTA 64bit Home! Yet works fine on XP 64bit! Just for grins i stuck back in my old 4gig DDr-2 800 and it did the same thing! methinks the 4 core has brought it back!

there are some new controls in the new BIOS.... Gang mode - Auto - Gang - unganged

Ganged is Dual mode UnGanged is single mode (no dual channel)

The others are to do with CPU... core things!

Ok I've just spent the last 2 hours getting my new Phenom II 720 BE to work on my M2N32 SLI Deluxe, here's my findings.

BIOS 2205 does NOT work.

I managed to post my PC under 2205 (after hard reset the CMOS data with jumper), in fact, 2205 recognized the new 720 BE CPU, however after I setup all the settings, saved it and reboot, my PC just doesn't POST.

I've to reset the CMOS again to make my PC to post again, but everytime I reboot it won't post until I reset CMOS memory.

So after 10 tries, I've rolled back to BIOS 2101 and while the cpu is not recognized, it worked. I can save my data and reboot properly.

The default vCore voltage is set to 1.36v if you use the "Auto" setting, and the CPU runs really hot (55-60C) I've to manually set the vCore down to 1.30v to run it slightly cooler.

I've managed to run it @ 3200 Mhz (200 with 16x multiplier) @ 1.30v.

I hope this info helps whoever want to run a Phenom II x3 720 BE on a M2N32 SLI Deluxe.

p.s. since BIOS 2205 recognized the 720 CPU, I strongly believe the next BIOS release will properly support the new AM2+/AM3 Phenom CPUs.
 
Worked for me!

I updated the BIOS to 2205 *before* installing the Phenom II X4 940 BE. I had a minor hiccup where RAID was disabled after the upgrade to 2205. I went into the BIOS, turned RAID back on and it booted no problem. Once it was bootable under 2205 I installed the Phenom II X4 940 BE...

Interesting. I have that m2n32-sli deluxe wireless edition. instead of dropping the 9850 in the old box, I might just pop the 720BE in the ASUS after a bios update and if that works then put a new 965BE in the current build.

I downloaded the latest bios from ASUS and now my m2n32-sli deluxe wi fi recognizes the phenom II 940 cpu. It runs hot. I pulled out the stock fan and added my butterfly cooler and aero heatsink compound. It still runs hot. It has gone up to 70 C.
 
Yea just got the 940 upgraded form 6400 Be and the 940 temp on AI booster states 50 -52 at idle.. But this is interesting because I felt the child while it is running and its NO HOT at all even if the temp states.. ?? Running the 2205 Bios and all settings are default. My cooler is a Freezer Pro.
Anyone got any ideas why ?
 
For those who did place the 720 or 940 on the m2n32 can you tell me if ASUS successfully implemented the unlocked
multiplier into the board. I have a 6400+ BE and it is not unlocked. I want to upgrade to the 720 with overclocking headroom since the 6400+ just isn't stable past 3.5 on air (of course the memory is probably causing the no POST since I am changing the core clock and not the multiplier). Thanks :sol:
 
I too am having a temperature issue with the Phenom II 940 BE with this motherboard. (55-60 degrees Celsius idle). I’ve got a Thermalright Ultima-90 heatsink mounted too… so I don’t know whether I need a bigger heatsink or what. BIOS is at 2207 and I can’t seem to modify the vcore down to 1.35v either (currently @ 1.39v). I’ve opened up a tkt with Asus about this and below is there response:

“Being that the cpu was never tested on that board and is not supported on the board there is no way of accurately answering that , I would assume that it is accurately seing the temps as the board monitors the sensor underneath the proc and that is not diffrent. I would assume also that it probably stem from the fact that the settings for that proc is not coded in to bios and it is using defaultvalues”

Has anyone gotten the core temps down with Phenoms II 940s? What coolers are you using and what are the new temperature readings?
