can not access wifi with usb adapter

Hi. I have a generic no name USB wifi adapter that works on windows XP.
I have been trying to use it on Windows 2000, but it doesn't seem to recognize it. The usb ports work as it reads an external hard drive fine. Is there anything I can do or troubleshoot?

do drivers exist for this adapter for windows 2000? (being generic, this may be a problem)

Thanks, its a generic brand. Could I somehow see what drivers XP is using and port them over to 2000?

Its possible.
Try getting the hardware ID for the device and post it here.

NOTE: In windows xp/2000 the device manager is more easily accessed by typing "devmgmt.msc" (no qoutes) in the run box.
