Question Can RAM with different latencies & timings work together?

So I made a rookie mistake. I bought what I thought was an identical RAM stick to match my existing DDR3 8GB. Same make and spec.

Turns out they're seemingly different in lots of key areas.

Is there any way to get these two to play nicely together?

If I'm understanding right at a minimum their CAS latency and general timings are pretty different.

Can I slave the faster one to the slower one somehow and get them to work? Via placement on the mobo? The MSI bios (Z97 PC Mate)?

Or should I just sell on the new stick and write it up to experience?

Even if they were identical , there is still a small chance they won't run together. That's why they are best purchased in matching pairs.

Memory is guaranteed in the form sold. Use of identical, exact match, same thing have no guarantee to be compatible together.

Workarounds to get extra memory to work include:
lower clock speed
relax DRAM timings
raise DRAM voltage
