Can someone build me a computer ....

With that kind of budget, I think you should consider buying an HP box (or similar). Amazon has one for $420 for example.

If you try to build one yourself, $100 goes away just for the operating system.

sorry about the vague post. I already have a sound card, 1440 resolution monitor, keyboard and mouse, winxp pro edition. I would be ussing it for everything from games, movies and music and microsoft office. I will bump up my budget to $500. And yes i will be putting the parts myself.

HD 4770, $100

WD6401AALS $70

(or WD3200AAKS for $55, but it's less bang for the buck and slower)

X3 720 + TA790GX $209

G.Skill 4GB DDR2-800 $43

Total $537. Is that acceptable?

I didn't include a burner. That's another $25 or so. Maybe you can reuse some older one?

Here's a pretty decent budget build:

The AMD triple core is better than Intels Dual core? Yes right?

It depends on applications. If you do something like compressing a mp3 or a DVD, it will be much better because all 3 cores will work.

For gaming, it will be better, but the difference is less spectacular. Here for example is a chart showing the X3 720 beating an E8400 in Crysis. (The E8400 is better than the E5200.)
