Yes, you can't tell the difference between VGA, DVI, HDMI, or displayport @ 1080p, but anything over that and you start to notice a difference in picture quality between analog and digital video.

yeah that's the max number of frames the display can output. The higher the frequency (120 Hz, etc) corresponds with the respectable frame rate. It doesn't matter how many frames the computer can display, the monitor caps it
If you're buying the monitor just stick with 60Hz refresh. I don't think a 120Hz or higher monitor is worth the extra money... Mainly because even with GTX Titans or GTX 780 ti's you won't get 120fps in most games maxed out. So that 120Hz is essentially going to waste.
Sorry to bring up an old thread. My tv is 60hz but somehow it doesn't feel like 60fps while gaming/youtube etc. I know how 60fps looks and it's definitely not there. Some tv's fake 120hz, and most use 2:3 pulldown to convert 24hz to 60hz, how do we know the tv isn't just faking the 60hz?

Haha no problem. Im much better than I used to be but tbh there isn't much you can do apart from search the TV model and confirm whether it is true 60hz or whether they are filling in the blanks. Also a bit obvious but just check that your GPU i really outputting 60hz. Some TVs only support their Max capabilities on certain ports so check that as well.

Wow, I didn't expect an actual response, thanks. Yeah, the tv displays a "1080p 60hz" logo when switching to the pc, but I wonder how much truth there is in this. Anyhow, I'll have to do some research and tests to find out the truth.
