The maximum physical memory is 4GB running under WinXP, but the maximum addressable capacity will be closer to 3GB.

Here's a good link for accessing how much memory you'll actually need, depending on the use of the computer. Personally, I can't think of many reasons for needing more than 1GB with a WinXP desktop system, and 2GB for a typical workstation.
