"Can World of Warcraft cause you to lose your job and get a divorce?"

I'm a gamer and i hate all the constant negative news articles released on gaming, but the reality is the majority of gamers dont convert their gaming abilities into real life situations, they view their games as entertainment and real life as seperate.

all the constant negative news articles released on gaming

just ignore them 😀

I work during the day and once I get home the first thing I do if fire up the PC. Been playing games since I was 4 years old (Atari 2600) don't see my self quitting anytime soon. If anything it "boosted" my brain and in-turn helped me gain more skill as the years passed by, that's how I see it. Life is short, get as much playtime as possible, helps the blood pressure among other things (unless you are getting pwned 😗 )

I work in IT Recruitment and wer hacve a client that specifically looks for people that play WoW in their spare time. They even play WoW in their lunch breaks. It is also a highly successful company...

The last time I checked It was a game normal people play games to have fun I have my job and my leadership skills came from the US military not world of warcraft. i play warcraft once in a while to have fun. Games were meant to be played for relaxation not to get serious at. You take away all the fun when you pkay for the most weapons or best armor it is rediculous its more stress than should be if you get gear great the point of a game is to have fun a game can not boost any chance of getting ahead in life only what is inside of you

I don't think that profession stacking and mount collecting is included but this game does have a few things to offer in the real world. It can show that either you are a team player or that you are the type that likes to work alone or do it your own way. Employers prefer workers who wont challenge their authority while still building their class of mangers.

No its start with the parents, you need to start with the little ones coz when you start with the grown ups its like teaching the old dogs new tricks.

If gaming starts being used on interviews that is just 1 more thing that is skirting the boundaries of legal to ask. I still find it offensive that while it is illegal in the US to ask age/sexual orientation/marital status/etc on interviews, it is perfectly legal for companies to google you or look you up on facebook/myspace to get the same information.

There are 2 lives and they are meant to be separate legally. Private life, and professional life. This doesn't mean you can't mesh the two but it should be an individual choice not force by some moron that put the wrong connections together.

You do any mmo long enough and leaders of guilds are shown to be crap. They get complacent and rude and generally complain a lot. What if I want to just PLAY A GAME? Does that make me bad at my job? No! If I didn't yell or spend hours/weeks preparing to play a ... GAME does that make me bad at my job? No! Does it make me BETTER at my job if I do those things? No!

So let's see if I can some it up.
Idiot researcher says WoW makes people better.
Researcher thinks Idiot HR person/manager should consider that Wow makes people better.
WoW player gets excited because his/her total lack of usefulness as a human due to his WoW playing is finally paying off.

BTW the pretend jocks talking about their gym habits and "beautiful wives" my my my, Freud would have a field day with that.

/Rant

That's your opinion mfluet. Some people find that fun. Although I'm more in the grey area. As wow is a break from the real world for me (used to be anyways), so i rarely lead raids, but don't mind raiding as long as I don't have to deal with bullshit.

And yes games can hone your skills at leadership, and can even help you become a leader if YOU want to be. But that's simply games in general, mmo's, fps, sports...

Fate to be honest you sound like one of those anal people. Seriously generalize some more. Because I can do it that to damn near anything. Theres good in bad in everything.

The only thing I agree with is it shouldn't really be asked in an interview but I don't think it's going overboard to ask it though.

Personally I believe interviews are a waiste of time anyways. It's simply all bullshit. You don't know how somebody works until you see how somebody works no matter how good/bad he/she looks on paper.

Blizzard has tons of games that help boost your skills in the job market.

WoW taught me leadership, attention, and organization, being able to lead a guild and be the top on the server and moderately competitive on the national scale.
SC2 taught me how to multitask and remain further focused and organized allowing me to be near the top in my league.

Both things taught me to be innovative when presented with a problem. In WoW when dealing with arena or with new raid bosses and in SC2 when you see something that you need to respond to. WoW teaching more long term and less on the fly, while SC2 enhancing quick response.

I think perhaps I should try to apply to be a manager for some high end jobs with my extensive background in gaming, perhaps I should include this kind of stuff in my resume...

Tiz true. My department is one of the better performing departments in our building. I'm the senior rep so whenever we are hiring I get drug to the interviews as the 2nd person. One of the questions my boss always asks is "Do you game?". EVERYONE in my department games. We are Horde on Uldamon and Alliance on Trollbane. Luckily my boss is the only one that doesn't game so when we call in "sick" he can't log into mumble and see if we really are :)

[citation][nom]ct1615[/nom]world of warcraft helped my career!I challenged co-workers to duels, on group projects I would tell co-workers "im DPS, I don't heal!" asked female co-workers if they where "really a girl or just a dude pretending" and kept telling my boss at meetings "don't bring noobs I need more DKP to get leet gear!"I now have a LOT more time to play WoW!!![/citation]
+1
