Is it possible to change color or look of a video by changing color information in metadata using MKVToolnix? Or mkv mux and metadata editing is only porpose of this software?

Left hand column Technical Info > Basics may be the best place to start.

For example (from the link):

Matroska is designed with the future in mind. It incorporates features like:

  • Fast seeking in the file
  • Chapter entries
  • Full metadata (tags) support
  • Selectable subtitle/audio/video streams
  • Modularly expandable
  • Error resilience (can recover playback even when the stream is damaged)
  • Streamable over the internet and local networks (HTTP, CIFS, FTP, etc)
  • Menus (like DVDs have [@?DVD-Video])
Not very detailed or explicit. There may be more details elsewhere in the document or on the website. FAQs perhaps.

Very likely that you will need to read though the entire document to delve into and discover what really can and cannot be done.

And even then, for the most part, the only way to be sure about what will work is to set up a test environment and try.

Something could work for example but take lots of time.....

Best way to answer this question I think is to run the program, make the adjustments on a copy of the video file, and see what happens.

But my guess is no, because any sort of adjustments can and should be made on either the player, the GPU, or the display. Anything the metadata is describing about the color of the video would purely be for reference.
