I cannot boot from either of my optical drives. I can play a movie and burn disk with no problems but can not boot from them. I have checked in bios to make sure that the drive is set to boot first. The drives show up in the bios and function in windows. I have reset cmos and that did not change a thing. I have tried several bootable disk and nothing. When the motherboard boots you can see the light flash on the optical drives and then it boots straight to windows. The last time I booted from the optical dives was when I loaded the OS two months ago. Anyone have any suggestions?

MB - ASUS P5K-Deluxe/Wifi
BIOS - 0404
CPU - E6850 @ stock 3.0GHz
Ram - 3GB Kingston DDR2-800 (2x512mb & 2x1gb)
HDD - WD 250GB AAKS SATA
ODD - Sony DVD RW G170S SATA
GPU - Sapphire X1950 Pro 512mb
PSU - Thermaltake Toughpower 750w
OS - XP Pro 32bit

Thanks chookman and Zorg but I have done that already.

I have cleared cmos, several times but with no results. I moved the cmos jumper for 10 seconds, powered on and no change. Again cleared cmos for 10 minutes and no change. I guess my next step will be to get another sata optical drive and see if it will boot from it. I find it hard to believe that the drives failed at the same time but that will be one more step in troubleshooting the problem.

Try disabling the 2nd and 3rd boot priority just to see if it boots. Then try unplugging the HDs and see if it boots. It's either a mobo problem or a DVD problem, I'm leaning mobo. Maybe try an another old SATA drive.
