Lachieman :
I have tried setting the DNS server for both the ethernet and wireless adapters to google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) but i still cannot get onto the browser
The reason why stean can work but not web browsers is because steam doesn't rely on DNS. Make sure you have the correct DNS server addresses for your network interface or use the router's IP address instead.
1.Open Network and Dial-up Connections
2.Right Click on connection and select 'Properties'
3.Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
4.Click 'Properties'
5.Click on 'Advanced'
6.select Tab DNS
7.add route DNS IP (192.168.X.X) Save it.
if it won't work after above steps, maybe u could try to changed the computer name, workgroup name and entered the dns suffix settings(Open System in Control panel, On the Computer Name tab, click Change. Click More.entered a sample dns suffix. If you want to be safe you can enter the computer description also). If you check the computer details, it is displayed(Not blank anymore in System). Reboot the computer and it is able to access the internet
