Question Cannot run Gigabyte GTX 1660 Mini Ti at 4K in PCIe x16 slot.

For some reason, I can't create a new post on the Nvidia Community Forum about this issue which would be the logical first stop so I thought I'd try my luck here. I'm hoping someone can offer some insight. I was getting help from Nvidia Tech Support however, and received all the standard advice about updating drivers, doing a fresh Windows install, trying older driver versions, checking for damage to the edge connector and PCIe x16 slot and so on. I've tested the card on 3 different PCs carrying out a completely fresh install of Windows each time. I’ve also tried using both the HDMI and DP ports with different monitors. So far nothing has worked and it is looking likely that the card itself is faulty. However, I thought I'd have one last try to see if anyone else has anything to suggest that I haven't tried before I give it up.

The Problem
With the card plugged into the PCIe x16 slot during a fresh Windows 11 install, the Microsoft Basic Display driver is used and the install proceeds as it should. As per normal, once an internet connection is established, Windows downloads the latest Nvidia driver for the card and the screen will switch to the max resolution of 3840 x 2160. At this point the card works just fine, until I reboot. Then the boot hangs at the Windows 11 loading circle. However, the PC boots OK if I plug the card into a PCIe x4 slot.

So the card WILL run at 3840 x 2160 after the automatic installation of the Nvidia driver so long as the PC is not rebooted OR if the card is plugged into a PCIe x4 slot where it will reboot normally.

I’ve not been able to establish that this is a hardware fault yet. The card works perfectly normally if the boot process gets past the Windows loading circle. I have the choice to just run the card in the x4 slot but I would like to find out why it won't run in the primary GPU 16 lane slot.

The local agents for the product where I live offer no out-of-warranty repair services and I'd rather not drop a ton of cash on a new card unless there’s no other choice. It's a long shot I know, but can anyone suggest a possible fix or work-around?

What is the make/model of the motherboard in question?

Is the connection to the monitor via displayport or HDMI?

To run HDMI at 4k past 30hz requires an ultra cable, and a HDMI 2.1 capable source.

I've tested on 4 different boards.

Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4
Gigabyte Z790 Elite AX ICE
MSI B760i Edge DDR4
MSI MAG Mortar B660m

all with different PSU, RAM, CPUs etc.

Is the connection to the monitor via displayport or HDMI? Both as stated in text

To run HDMI at 4k past 30hz requires an ultra cable, and a HDMI 2.1 capable source. The cables I'm using all work fine once the PC boots. They all worked fine before the fault appeared.

I suspect that the card is faulty in some way.
As a possible work around, once running properly, do not shut down except for maintenance.
Use sleep to ram(no hibernate) instead.
The pc and monitor will enter a very low power state almost like a full power off.
Sleep/wake becomes only a handful of seconds.
My pc has been up for 5 days since the last maintenance.

Thanks for the reply. I think you are right about the faulty card. However, I don't want to leave the PC on or hybernating as a work around. It would be easier to stick the card in the x4 slot since it runs ok in there. It's just that I was hoping to get to the bottom of the problem if I could.
