Simply, it won't leave. I have tried using the control panel. Tried Manually frying everything. Done a Registry Clean. The thing persists, it simply will NOT delete off my system - anyone know how to kill it?

Solution
Well, if I say to you that the way to solve your problem is to follow the advice as laid out in this thread then you could choose this reply as the solution.

And I am glad I could help. It was an interesting journey.

Now get some sleep and have a good day. Good morning.

:)
I found
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall > {AADD1C8F-D59F-4D55-A726-768C71A205A8}

There are more I don't even know what half of this means - going to guess graphics ...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > PegasusImaging > Apps > AVICodecs > PVMJPG21

Yay!

Now, select the first one and look at the right hand pane - anything like 'Pinnacle' there?

If not, go to the nest one and check it. Use the down key on the keyboard.

Find a folder that contains the word 'Pinnacle'.

I know you can.

Starfleet? Are you recruiting me into the Military?
Damn, someone help me - not again! lol
(I've done my time, I'm not going back, I'll be AWOL inside a week I think LOL)

But I must admit, I'm about ready to throw the laptop at a wall ...
that or give in and just go to bed for a nanna nap, to gather my marbles up to continue this game ...

Have you ever met a programme more frustrating than this one?
Or someone using a computer more useless than I am?
LOL

Last I checked you CAN'T delete your desktop :-/

I originally installed it from a CD
Why does it say Desktop?

*** EDIT ***

WAIT I might know - the Pinnacle instructions said to copy the CD to the desktop - I deleted that folder - do I need it back now? It's still in the bin, so I can get it back

Which explains why Control Panel gets confused.

Now, go back to the registry and click on the folder that contains the Pinnacle entry, it's name begins with 'AADD1C8F' and press delete.

Press okay.

Now try to uninstall the program again.

I think you are going to like this.

YOU WANT ME TO WHAT?!?!?!?!?!

*cries a little*

Should I back up the reg files before I do that?

You have already tried to reinstall it to uninstall it, didn't you?

I wouldn't bother.

If you like.

But you won't be needing it again.

Ok I bit the bullet - felt a like actually biting a bullet too (and yes I've done that, it's not fun, as in yes - I bit one, it's not good for your teeth, military thing, we're stupid, but it was an experience I'm not sure many people would have had, chewing bullets LOL)

Anyway, the thing is gone

It's not in Control Panel to do an uninstall ...

is it dead now?
Like really truly dead?

It faked it once, I wouldn't be surprised if it's still there somewhere!

umm dude

I did

Then I said

Nope, it's gone.

Although, there may be a few files left on the system and the registry can be cleaned a little further but, I think that you'll find that it will no longer impinge on you.

Funny thing is, probably the best way to clean your system now would be to reinstall Pinnacle and then uninstall it straight away.

Another funny thing, it will probably install and run perfectly for you now.

However, you have version 17 now, don't you?

And yes, it will be slightly cooler than 14.

Are you happy?

Was it fun?

Was I wrong?
😉

You're joking - if I installed it now straight off the disk the bloody thing would work? *slams head against brick wall*

And yeah, Corel is sending me the electronic version of 17 tomorrow (my tomorrow which is in about an hour - Tomorrow comes early when you're on GMT+10) So yeah, I'll have it Wednesday to plonk on the computer ... Don't go running far, I might need you to make it work LOL!

Am I happy - damn straight - bloody thing is goooooooone

Were you right that I'd enjoy that - not so much, but the results make the trauma well worth it ... *never wants to play in the reg directory again!*

But yes, well worth the effort 🙂

And thank you for your time and putting up with the worlds most retarded computer user ;-)

How do I give you your "you solved it" award ... which message would that be?

(BTW I'd call you a smug bastard, but given you fixed this, I can't really - you deserve the smugness LOL)

Solution
Actually, I gotta say, this has to be one of the more entertaining technical journeys I've been on ... yeah it took hours, but a problem I've had for just over 3 weeks, you fixed ... and it was kinda fun in the process ... You're an entertaining fellow to speak to! And helpful! But yep, I'll give that the answer, then everyone can try and sift through my insanity to find your sane solutions LOL I promise if I return and something's broken, I won't tell you 'nope, not doing that' next time, I'll just do it, might be quicker lol

thanks heaps - have a good day! And thanks for being a Vampire to get me through to the end of this 🙂
seriously dude, thank you 🙂
(my computer won't get torched now lol, you saved an electronic life - do you feel good? LOL seeya round)

Well, I must confess to being possessed of a warm and cosy feeling of pride.

Although, I honestly think that it you had met me at the airport, I could have flown there, fixed it and flown back and would still have had half a night's sleep.

Ah sure, never mind.

I have enjoyed assisting you immensely and if I can assist any further then do not hesitate to ask.

Happy Pinnacle-ing. :)

LOL sadly that's probably true!
Mind you, you lose a day getting here then gain it getting back, pretty sure it works out to 'time stood still' LOL
But if you really want to fly here next time, feel free - damn, given it took me 3 weeks to fix this until you talked me through it, it probably would have worked out faster if I'd just posted you the laptop lol ;-)

Anyway, question - is it wrong to stalk the tech support?
I'll open another thread if you want so you can get another 'best answer'
but I wanted to know about those 'trace' things you were talking about
I wanna zap this little 'friend' of mine right off the machine ...
