Hi People,

I recently added a new 500gig hdd to my desktop pc.and while the rest of the shares on the network work fine i cant seem to access this drive. I have an external usb drive connected as well and no problems with that share. If i create new shares they work fine on other folders on c: but when i share e: it shows up no problem but when i try to access it it says windows cant access. you do not have permission to access contact administrator to request access. All machines are logged in as administrator. I have even reformatted and did clean install including deleting and re doing partitions and still same problem. i have also removed shares and re done multiple times.

Thanks in advance. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I should've clarified better. There are 2 places to set the needed permissions. It sounds like you've enabled sharing, and it sounds like 'everyone' has full control on the share.

However, there is one other step that is needed. On the security tab, the user and/or group, needs to have permissions assigned there as well. I'm sorry if you've already done this, but not everyone knows there are share...
So you can share folders on different drives (both C: and D:, I assume) and they are accessible over the network? And then it's only on this (E: ) drive that you can't access shared folders?

Do you want to share the entire drive on the network? Go to My Computer and right click on the drive, then click on Sharing. Let me know what you see there.

You have to enable sharing, and then also assign the appropriate permissions. Allow the appropriate permissions under the advanced sharing permissions, and then also right click on the drive, click properties, permissions, and allow permissions there.

I have done what you said all sharing boxes ticked for full control for everyone drive is shared. Yes you were right no problem sharing other drives. Also Merry Christmas to you and your family.

all shares are set as per my initial statement. Any other ideas?

Ok, then I am wondering if you could simply map the drive on the network. In a computer on the network, go to My Computer and click Map Network Drive. If you can discover your E drive there, then you might be able to map it on the network computer and it would act as if it was a local drive. Give that a shot.

Merry Christmas to you too! :)

You're a Genius, Thanks fixed it. Just for my own curiosity and learning why did i not have to do that on other shared drives?
