can't access the GUI on a asus rt ac68u router after accidentally changing the router ip to 192.168.3.1

I had the same problem when trying to to access GUI using Firefox after performing a firmware upgrade. Got error message. Used IE and it got to the GUI with no issues. Note that you MUST use https://<ip address>:8443/ That is the only port that will get to the GUI by default.

Hi
I have been trying to factory reset my RT-AC68U without success. I have a Client 2 issue where it has stopped connecting. I was hoping that a factory reset - default values - would reset the firmware.

All the solutions I have read on the "Poor" reset issue only returns me to the last firmware installed. It retains all the setting values in memory, therefore, there is no factory reset!!!

Why doesn't Asus wake up and provide a solution. It is obviously a problem. As my unit is pretty much useless and not doing what it was purchased for, I am going to see about getting a refund. I shall not be buying an ASUS again, regardless of the rave reviews they might bet. The rave reviews that encourage us to buy products such as these, are only later to be evidently and absolutely wrong.

cheers

Found the answer. Use the cd that came with the router. On it, it will have a exe. File on their that will find your router with the correct ip address and then type it in the url address bar and voila their you go.

This worked. I used https://192.168.1.1:8443/. Using 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.1:8443 did not work. Must be https:// in the beginning.

please note that you will get this error msg: NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID. Click on advanced and then continue to this webpage.

I tried every suggestion (well, almost, except a few obvious redundant ones). None is even close. Clearing the cache only did away with the "Settings have been updated. Web page ..." advertisement. Instead, it now spits out the honest truth: "This site can’t be reached 192.168.1.1 refused to connect.". This problem has been there since I started applying firmware patches on my 68U 2 years ago. In designing the firmware update routine, ASUS engineer must have opted to turn off access to 192.168.1.1(or its equivalent). And some hiccup invariably happens. Access did not re-open after the update. In more fortunate circumstances, power on-off cycle will complete the update process normally and all is returned to normal. For the less fortunate few of us, we are stuck. This can be fixed. Redesign the update process!!!
