Cant change brightness in Windows 10

I downloaded new Windows 10 and maked new update + downloaded new AMD driver and now i cant add brightness. It happened after i tryed to launch AMD catalyst. Screen was black for 2 seconds and after that i could not add brightness

It looks like the new AMD driver is incompatible with Windows 10, at least for now. Can you please uninstall the new driver and install the older one to check if that works?

I have toggled the enable/disable PnP monitor; Did not fix problem
I have installed newest drivers for ALL devices; Did not fix problem
I have rolled back display drivers to all different previous versions; Did not solve problem
Switch from AMD R6 to Microsoft Display adapter; Did not fix problem

In my case it was also the "monitor driver". It was showing "monitor" whilst it should be "generic PnP monitor"

1. Open device management
2. "show hidden devices"
3. Uninstall every device under monitors, select "delete driver" when possible
4. Rescan for hardware changes
5. Windows should atomatically install "generic PnP monitor"

Nope, i i have the latest drivers. Brightness doesnt work. Uninstalled and reinstalled monitor device. Doesnt work. Tried switching to windows video driver. Brightness key still doesnt work. Went into BIOS and switched it from function key to multimedia key. Doesnt work. But the crazy thing is random days, it will work. There is no relation to what im actually doing on the laptop

If this does not work, disable then enable in turn the Monitor and Display adapter. Worked for me

yeah - advice is correct.
I have a samsung NP470 and the brightness control become unresponsive (permanently low) after windows 10 upgrade.
Tried the above without success until I updated the DISPLAY ADAPTER (intel hd graphics 4000) in DEVICE MANAGER.
I guess that's the video card like NVIDIA, so makes sense.

It's taken months to find this for my HP Pavilion Dv7 which would only work with Windows 10 by not using the AMD graphics drivers - both of which Device Manager reported as "Working," using the Microsoft basic PNP driver - Which had no control of the brightness of the screen.
I tried all of the above, to no effect,
I had already updated all drivers.
The cure for me was ...
1) Uninstall the AMD low power Graphics Card driver from the Device manager.
2) Reboot.
It was that simple!

I tried all of the other suggestions but uninstalling my graphics card driver and rebooting is what finally worked for me. Thank you!!!

I had experienced this issue right after upgrading to Win 10 on my HP EliteBook 8570p and figured out the solution. Unfortunately, possibly due to a Win 10 update, the issue reappeared and I couldn't remember how I'd solved it so I had to start digging around again for a solution. This post pointed me in the right direction and with a little more troubleshooting, I discovered that if you are running TeamViewer, it installs a "PnP-Monitor (Standard)" driver which throws a wrench in the works. I've detailed my solution below. Hopefully it'll help someone else from beating their head against a wall trying to figure it out.

1) Search for Device Manager in Start Menu
2) Expand the Monitors section
3) Look for "PnP-Monitor (Standard)", right-click and select "Update Driver Software..."
4) Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
5) Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
6) Select Generic PnP Monitor and click "Next" and this should resolve the issue

THANK YOUUUU! You save my eyes! But for my laptop (HP Pavillion 15-p051us) i tried those solution but still not worked, so i decided to uninstall it.

Solution 3
1) Go to Device Manager in Start Menu
2) Go to the Monitors section
3) Right click on PnP-Monitor (Standard) and click uninstall
4) Check remove this device bla blabla... then click yes
5) reboot

^I had the same problem after updating my graphics drivers, for some reason this "PnP" thing in "Screens" went off and I just toggled it back on and then I could adjust the brightness again.
Hope the picture explains, because I'm bad at explaining in english.

I do have one thing to add: When I clicked on 'monitors' in Device Manager, the PnP was already enabled. Which left me VERY confused. Then I realized that my initial download of my AMD graphics driver after installing Windows 10 was unsuccessful. SO, if someone else's PnP is already enabled and you can't adjust your brightness. Click on 'Display Adapters' in Device Manager. If there is yellow triangle with an exclamation point beside the AMD driver, you'll need to install the new driver (which can be done by right clicking, then choosing for windows to install/update). Once you're AMD driver is installed, it will disable the PnP. Once you enable the PnP, it will all be working smoothly again (or at least it should if you're having the same issue as me).

This worked perfectly for my zenbook UX31A. Must select the 'PnP-Monitor (Standard)' when doing the driver update. Literally as soon as I had hit apply, the screen brightness plummeted to where it should be! Thanks!

Oh my.....you FIXED it! I just had the Creator's Windows 10 update install on my system (Dell Latitude e6520). Function-brightness keys no longer functioned.

When I enabled 'show hidden devices' in Device Manager, I saw two extra 'generic PNP monitors' listed. I right-clicked 'remove device' on *all* the monitors (don't worry, the screen won't suddenly go blank or anything) and then I rescanned for hardware changes. It installed just the two monitors (laptop screen + extra monitor) and voila! Function brightness keys work again!
