Cant copy files, source disk error

Howdy, my laptops been running fine for a while now but today i went to move some video files ranging from 60mb-1gb and an error popped up while transferring saying "cannot read from source disk or file" . I thought it might be my external drive so i tried a usb flashdrive instead but that didnt work either. Then i tried just copying the file from the downloads folder to desktop and same problem so its definately the laptop. Has anyone been through this and have a solution for me to try?
Any advice appreciated

also i have tried moving other files but anything bigger then 50mb wont copy
