Can't copy to external Hard drive (Invalid MS-DOS function)

Hi,

So recently(around 2weeks), i can't move any files into my external, when i paste something in there it won't start transferring(it shows the window but after a while gives "Invalid MS-DOS function"). but i can easily open/play anything and can copy them from the external to my laptop. so i was wondering if anybody can help me with this.

Do you have another pc/laptop to connect external hdd to, and see if it works copying from them.
Might be bad usb cable...

Are you sure your lap is virus/malware free?
When you listen to your external drive, does it emmit any strange sounds...?

Hi, yes i'm sure it's virus free. i will try it with other laptops. and sometimes it does some strange noise, like when it's spinning.

How long have you been using it?
Did you drop it sometimes? That might be why there are noises.

As far as i remember i didn't dropped it, i only put it near my laptop and only take it with its bag on 5+day travels, but it happend when i was in home and it didn't move abit and i used it exactly the night before it happened. i have it for like 9-12month i guess.

m14aria, run Seatools on the drive and it will tell you what state it is in.
