Can't create simple new simple volume or initialize HDD

I currently am running windows 8.1 64 bit and have an ssd as my boot drive. I am unable to do anything (initialize, format and so on) with my 1tb hdd and cant get it to work. I need help. http://imgur.com/2EciSGv

No the initialize button is grayed out. Also this comes up when I open disk management (http://imgur.com/FYgI65Q)

Yea a CRC is usually pretty bad. Is this a new drive? If so i'd return it.
