Can't Get Cheats to work in COD2

I have already beaten the game on veteran, so there is nothing left for me to do but demolish the Nazi Forces with invincibility. I know the cheats, but they aren't working. IGN says to activate the console in the game options menu, then while playing pull down the console with ~ and enter developer 1 and then enter any cheats. Trouble is, they don't seem to be working. Anyone know how to solve this? I know that the cheats will only work on version 1.0 of the game, and thats what I have. Im completely stumped. Oh and no I don't want to use cheats online.

Bored? maybe, but it'd still be fun to kill everyone by bashing them, or with a pistol if you can't get that close. It's a game, remember?

Anyway, consider uninstalling, then installing with no patches. You can always re-apply the patches later. I ASSUME you have YOUR puchased CD with its' key, still?

Have fun bashing... I know I will.

Then do Far Cry with a pistol and/or knives.
