Can't get into bios after upgrading CPU

I have a Biostar TZ77B mobo and I upgraded from an i3 to an i7. When my computer starts I get a screen that tells me that I need to reset the defaults from the BIOS and to hit the delete key to do that, but hitting the delete get doesn't get me there. And when I restart and tap, tap, tap that delete key from the beginning all the way through, I still can't get into the bios. I"m stumped. Any ideas?

The i3 and the i7 were of the same generation, and the i7 is supported by the mobo.

When I turn on the computer, I get the mobo screen, then a screen that tells me that a new CPU is detected and I hit <delete> and reset the defaults. However, hitting <delete> doesn't take me into the bios/uefi, even when I restart and hit it steadily throughout boot process. Instead, it goes into Windows 10, which seems to work fine.
When I check the system, it registers the i7 as the CPU.

Nevertheless, when I turn the compute off and on again, I get the screen telling me I need to reset to the defaults.

I'm stumped. I switched my keyboard from a usb3 to a usb2, as was recommended on another thread, but no change. Should I pull turn it off, pull the hard drives and restart? Will that take me into the bios/uefi?

I could remove the mobo battery. If I did so, would I lose my bios upgrades?

Would removing my drives, including my OS drive force the computer into the bios/uefi?

Before I crack the case again and remove the battery, I would love to know if there isn't some alternative keypress or anything that can get me into the bios/uefi.

It's an i7-3770, which should be fine. And so far, everything IS fine. It boots into Windows 10 and seems to run without problems. The only abnormal thing is that after starting the computer and seeing the Biostar T-series splash screen, there is now a new American Megatrends screen that comes up and tells me that a new CPU has been detected and I need to reset to the defaults.

To answer your questions, no removing the CMOS battery won't remove BIOS upgrades, just reset the settings.

Removing drives will not force the BIOS to load as for BIOS was always designed to be entered by human input.

Try these things and report back to me when you do so.
Have you tried maybe upgrading the BIOS to something that might support your cpu?
Also, as well as upgrading from an i3 to an i7, did you also upgrade architectures? Like from Sandy bridge to ivy bridge for example?
Try removing the CMOS battery. That will reset the settings to factory default so maybe that American megatrends message won't keep appearing.

Well . . . ugh. 🙁

I removed the battery and let it sit for some time before resetting it. It clicked back into place and seems set as it is supposed to be. But . . .

I am still getting the American Megatrends message, only now, it is not only telling me that the cpu changed and I need to reset the defaults, but it tells me "cmos failure"

Of course, all that said, the computer is running well. I don't know what to do, but I don't want to make things any worse. This is frustrating.

Update: The battery is working. The computer is keeping the date and time current even when not hooked up to the internet. There are updates available which I will probably, and with trepidation, install, but first I'm going to use this old keyboard with a ps2 connection to see if that will get me into the BIOS with a keypress.
