Question Can't get video on new build: MSI B550M PRO-VHD + Ryzen 5900X

As I understand it the Ryzen processors ending in X need an independent gpu to display video output. Seeing as I plan to use this machine for Proxmox only, I purchased something cheap (EVGA 8400 GS 1GB). It's securely in the PCIE slot yet nothing comes up on the screen when I boot - no beeps to indicate boot errors. I also heard that updating the bios is a good idea for those cpu's so I did that too (fortunately can be done without a display). Am I missing something here? Do I need a different kind of gpu? Thank you.

You need a gpu card after 2018 to fully support uefi with secure boot on, your card is around 10 years to old.

Farts! Well thanks for your "compatibility" feature pcpartspicker. I'll bug you to double check a gpu will work once I decide on something affordable. Thanks faalin, I was really starting to lose it...
