Can't open "My Computer" in Windows 95B (system freezes)

After finally managing to reinstall Windows on my old Toshiba Satellite Pro 420CDT, I've noticed another issue. When trying to open the My Computer folder, the system freezes. I can move the mouse, but if I try to click on something or open Task Manager, I get the BSoD saying that the system is busy. So, what could be the issue? A conflict with drivers, a hardware issue, maybe something else? Any help would be appreciated.

i can't believe it came out 22 years ago... i can remember it being better than windows for workgroups or 3.1 but only as it could run without a network...

with an old PC the problems could be anything, old age comes to mind

Start by testing the hard drive, that's as good a place as any to start:

If that passes okay, test the RAM with MemTest86 V7.3 Free Edition:

But as Colif says, it really is well past it's retirement age. Personally I wouldn't want to spend money on it to get it working properly, not on something that old. I'd rather put the money towards buying something newer. If you can't afford a new one there are plenty of second-user laptops to be had at great prices if you do some online searching.

Thanks for your help, but I already figured it out. I assigned the CD-ROM drive to the incorrect drive letter. It was supposed to be F:\, but it was set to E.
