Hi. I have been having this problem overclocking my cpu. I have an old system that I want to experiment overclocking on, but whenever i change the FSB the system locks up and i have to reset the CMOS. Even if I change the FSB by 1 it black screens and I have to reset the CMOS. I have tried changing the multiplier but when I do that the save doesn't go through and I am stuck at the same multiplier with the same frequency. This really makes me annoyed, so I am wondering if anyone can help me solve this problem. I have disabled all the power saving options to make sure the system is stable, but that didn't work. I have also tried messing with the voltages, but that didn't seem to work either. Is it the cpu or is just the motherboard?

Its the core 2 quad q8300 with the dell xps 630i stock motherboard. It supports overclocking, so I don't really know the problem

ok thanks ill try it again tomorrow

the Q8300 is hard to OC. It's already at 333 FSB (which is your 1333 FSB) Unless you have 400mhz quality ram , and a mobo that can take to 400 FSB, then you will have difficulty OC that CPU. The 650 SLI mobo which yours is based on has a memory whole between 350-380,mhz (if memory servies me correctly). Pushing that Q8300 any further will be difficult.

Ahh. I tried everything. It looks like this cpu just can't overclock, not even a little. Oh well. Thanks for everyone for trying to help. Although I wonder if reinstalling the bios will do anything. Any thoughts on it?

i think the bios i used for my old Q6600 was the 0605. Anything after that really had trouble posting.
